Month: December 2019

  • How to up-level so you achieve more

I’ve just had a lovely conversation with a coaching client about how much they’ve up-levelled in only the 2 months we’ve been working together.

It really has been transformational, and now they feel like they’ve not only got more confidence, but they’re also able to achieve what they want.

This is something that is very close to my heart as there’s nothing I love more than seeing people rise and stand in their power.

So, if you’re ready to take action, and up-level in 2020, here are 7 steps to get you heading in the right direction.

    1. Be really clear on what you really want

Let me ask you a question….what is it that you want?

If we were to fast forward 12 months, what would you want that’s different to where you are now?

    More clients?

    More sales?

    A promotion?

    A new job?

    More confidence?

By being super clear on what it is that you want, you’re much more likely to get there. However, you first have to give yourself permission to want it. This is where so many people fall down. They don’t feel as though it’s ok to want it.

What if people think I’m too big for my boots?

What if my friends / family don’t like me anymore?

    What if I change?

What if I’m not good enough?

There are people better than me.

All of these thoughts might be swirling round in your head.

Even so, don’t miss this step as this will set you off in the right direction.

    Here’s action number 1

Give yourself permission to want what you want. It’s OK. You’re allowed to want; be, do and have more. It doesn’t make you a bad person. In fact, chances are you’ll be able to impact more people by up-levelling.

    Action number 2

Write yourself a letter to the future of what you’re going to be, do and have in December 2020, and open it when you get there. I do this all the time, and not only is it really good fun, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by how much you’ve achieved.

    2. Decide what up-levelling means to you

This is very different for different people, so time to have a think about what it is for you.

How are you going to be different when you up-level?

Now, by this I don’t mean that your personality will have changed, but more about how will you will you feel?

    Will you be more focused?

    Will you be more confident?

Will you put yourself forward for more things?

Will you not question yourself or struggle with self doubt?

    Action number 3

Take a moment to have a think about what up-levelling means to you, and why it matters. I’d love to hear what it is so feel free to let me know in the comments.

    3. Start looking for opportunities to say YES to

I am a huge advocate on learning to say no, however, today I’m shouting from the roof tops of being brave enough to say YES!

The reason being is that this used to be a big thing for me. Whenever an amazing opportunity came along I would automatically think of a reason why I couldn’t / shouldn’t do it. I was a habitual Excuse fanatic.

The problem with this is that it’s a sure fire way of keeping you small, also if you’re not careful people will stop asking, and start to stop spotting the amazing opportunities when they do come up.

I remember once I was sat talking to a friend of mine who had been job hunting for a while, and another friend of ours had found the perfect job in the same area, and in the same field that the first friend had wanted. The funny thing is that the perfect job had been advertised in places that she regularly looked.

The thing was the first friend hadn’t spotted it, as she’d convinced herself that there were no good jobs out there.

    In reality she’d stopped looking!

In order to up-level you have to start saying YES!

Yes it might feel uncomfortable as it’s new

Yes it might be a comfort zone stretch

Yes you might have to do loads more work to prepare

Yes you might feel nervous, and afraid.

But what if….it leads to something amazing?

What if it gives you more confidence?

What if you’re really good at it?

    What if..??

Challenging yourself and stretching your comfort zone is the only way to grow. No-one said the road to up-levelling was easy.

    Action number 4

What are you going to say YES to?

    Speaking up in a meeting?

Pitching to a brand new client?

    Going for a new job?

Speaking on a podcast or at someone’s event?

There are so many amazing opportunities out there, which one are you going to say yes to?

    4. Identify what your blocks are and where you’re holding yourself back

This is a sneaky one, as so often your blocks might have become a habit and you might not realise you’re doing it. In order to side step your blocks you first need to know what they are for you.

So, I’ve got you covered with a free workshop. Click here if you want to have a listen.

    5. Raise your self awareness

Once you’ve identified your block start to spot yourself doing it.

This does take time and practice, but well worth the effort. Once you’ve started to tune in, you’ll be able to turn it around to something that serves you more, and when that happens you’ll be able to choose whether you’re going to side step it and get in your own way, or continue to rise up.

    6. Surround yourself with people who all want the same

Who you hang around with really does matter. If you’re sharing your goals with people who aren’t on the same page, not only are you battling your own old habits and ways of working, but you’ll also be getting sucked down by their views too.

Now, this doesn’t mean you need to ditch all your old friends and never see your Aunty Freda again. But it does mean that maybe you’re a bit more selective about what you talk to them about, and get yourself a new gang full of people who are on the same page. Ambitious, positive, action takers who will become your real life cheerleaders.

    Action number 5

Wondering where to find such an amazing crew?

    They’re everywhere!

Facebook groups, Linkedin groups, networking events, you can even create your own.

This will make such a difference to your journey (and make it so much more fun too!)

    7. Get a coach

Hiring a coach isn’t just for the athletes and CEO’s of the world. They’re for everyone!

I’ve worked with people at all levels of their journey.

A coach will keep you on track. Hold you accountable, challenge you, and cheer you on every step of the way.

If you’re serious about up-levelling, give this some thought. (If you’d like to talk about whether this is for you, click here for a complimentary discovery call)

I can’t wait to see what you achieve in the New Year. Final point: Don’t try to get there in one leap. You don’t climb a mountain in one big jump, it’s a series of small steps in the right direction. So, focus on the next small step you can take to keep you moving.
