Executive Director Away Days

Stepping away from the day-to-day is the equivalent of sharpening your axe

For leadership teams who want to think better, lead together, and operate at the right level

Your Directors don’t lack commitment, and they’re certainly not short on things to do. What they do lack, because almost every leadership team does, is space…

Space to think, reflect, and step out of the noise of the day to day, to grow as a team.

That’s exactly what Directors Days are designed for.

Executive Coach Barbara Nixon facilitating a strategic Director Away Day for a senior leadership team.

It’s not just about what you do as a leadership team…but how you do it!

You might notice that your Directors:

  • Are constantly busy, but rarely have headspace to think clearly
  • Often work in silos
  • Stay close to operations instead of leading at the right level
  • Don’t always think collectively because everything feels urgent
  • Haven’t time to properly reflect on how they’re leading together as well as individually
  • Make things harder for each other, themselves and their teams without realising it

Providing space to improve senior leadership team performance ripples out to the business

When a leadership team gets out of the room and into the right space, something shifts. Conversations happen that wouldn’t happen in a Monday morning meeting. When they focus soley on the impact of their leadership from a different vantage point clarity happens, and with that comes a commitment to adapt.

A Directors Day is a one-day, in-person experience for a leadership team.

This is a group coaching day blended with leadership development blended with a strategy day. It’s fun, reflective, practical, and focused on real behaviour rather than theory and honest conversation. It’s totally bespoke and focuses on what actually matters to the people in the room, and the business.

Common areas that are explored are:

  • How the Directors show up day to day
  • The impact they’re having on the wider team
  • How they relate to each other
  • How to remove friction
  • And how their collective behaviour shapes the organisation

For Directors who want to lead as a team.

You want your leadership team to grow in confidence to take the business to the next level.

You want some time away from the day to day to develop and understand yourselves and each other better.

You value development as a team and taking time out to learn is important to you and the business.

How we work together

This isn’t another workshop, or team build. In fact, it’s so much more than that.

What I offer is a healthy fusion of coaching, mentoring, consulting and development all rolled into one day!

I’ve worked with thousands of Leaders over the years, from Managing Directors, CEO’s, Directors and Senior Managers to help them see things from a different perspective, upgrade their thinking, habits, and elevate as a high performing leader in their company, to get the results that they really want and need.

I understand business, so everything we talk about is tied back into practical application.

Director days enable leaders to see their own behaviour from a different perspective, raise their self awareness and how they are impacting the people around them as well as the business, and to get together with their peers to improve how they work together as a team.

The sessions are free flowing and always go in the direction of the team whilst understanding the needs of the business. Sessions feel relaxed, and individuals are able to open up, and share, all whilst their thinking is being challenged.

Each person then leaves with their own actions to put into practice, and a team action plan for them to continue to work on after the session, and full accountability is put into place to ensure actions are taken and you don’t just go back to old ways of working.

Frequently Asked Questions

No, but they do have to be the most senior team in the business.

You could just have one if you like. Most companies book them in for every 4 months so you’re constantly re-connecting throughout the year.

Most companies prefer to go to a location away from work.

Relaxed, informal, fun, challenging, thought provoking, and safe. Although I get to know you and your teams challenges before-hand, I’m really adept at moving with the flow so what comes up and gets discussed is always what the team needs at that time. This is why so many companies have them regularly throughout the year as must have dates in their calendar.
