Quick question … are you making things hard for yourself?

I have to be honest here, I’ve done this on more than one occasion… things like:
* Overthinking
* Procrastinating
* Messing about on social
* Changing the plan (yet again)
* Writing yet another list
* Tweaking stuff
* Re-inventing the wheel
* Worrying
* Making assumptions
* Coming up with excuses
All the while the clock is ticking, and you’re not getting any closer to where you want to be.
Only for the day, week or month to pass and you’re still in the same place as you were.
Give me a big OMG YES If you can relate!!
But let me get serious for a minute, it really doesn’t have to be this hard…and if like me you get a mega buzz from achieving things and you’re ready to get results then it’s time to stop.

Here’s what works for me…

Tip #1 – Catch yourself in the act

When you start to spot yourself spinning then you can do something about it – so be really aware of what you’re doing throughout your day and see what comes up. Once you spot yourself, it’s time to do something different.

Tip #2 – Be careful about what you put on your list

One of the biggest problems is we have one list with absolutely everything on it. Instead, create a ‘leap list’ which is a list of the 3 things you need to do that will give you the biggest results. Do them first.

Tip #3 – Gamify your day

This one super simple tip changed my world completely (and massively improved my productivity!)

Decide how long your task is going to take, grab your phone and set the timer. Now all you have to do is get the task done before the alarm goes off. Told you it was simple.

No messing around

No jumping from task to task

No checking social

No staring into the fridge

Just focus on your ‘one big thing’

Tip #4 – Get your systems in order

Setting up your systems (or giving your systems a bit of a spring clean) is where the magic is. Look at what you do over and over again and see how you can streamline it. Is it a case of just getting organised? Or is there a way that you can automate it? Or can you delegate this task? Quite often we get used to working in a certain way when there is a quicker and slicker way of getting it done.

Tip #5 – Focus on the result and not the task

I say this to my clients all.the.time – look at where you’re going and not at what you’ve got to do to get you get there.

Here’s what I mean – when you focus on the task you can quickly become overwhelmed, tired, stressed, scared – all the things…and pretty soon everything else becomes so much more appealing…but if you focus on what the task gives you eg, more clients, more money etc….then all of a sudden it doesn’t seem half as bad.

Give these a go. I’d love to hear your thoughts, let me know in the comments and let’s chat 🙂
